5 on Friday

1. I think we will title this week: Being Sick.

2. On Sunday night Ellie complained that her ear needed to be cleaned out. Sure enough, by 3AM we were positive it was an ear infection (at least having tubes in her ears tells us that with the drainage, even if they didn't help avoid the infection).

3. Monday Nick had the cold that Ellie had last week.

4. Wednesday I had the cold that Nick and Ellie had.
Third tri-mester of pregnancy + being sick = not fun at all

5. On a positive note, I got to go with Ellie's day-care class on their first field trip. To Krispy Kreme Doughnuts so they could "learn to cook". The 13 little 1.5-2.5 year olds were really excited about the trip, and loved eating their donut at the end of the trip. Ellie did a great job sharing her mommy with her friends, although she did tell one little kid "MY MOMMY" at the end of the trip.

5 on Friday

1. We have done well with sickness in our house this winter, just colds... until Monday when Ellie came down with a fever. A little medicine and she was back to her normal self. No complaints, we were due and it was a pretty easy illness this time around.

2. Ellie being sick meant Ellie and Mommy got to spend Valentine's Day together! So far Nick and I have avoided catching whatever it was she had.

3. Last weekend we had some friends over for dinner and to see the house. Three little girls fairly close in age and a little baby boy... super cute! Once again we loved being able to use the kitchen and new kitchen table. What a difference it makes when having a larger group over.

4. On Tuesday night I was tucking Ellie into bed and we were talking about her going to day-care the next day (since she had been home sick the previous day and a half). She must have known it was going to be Wednesday and sometimes on Wednesday's her and I go to the mall after work because she said, "Go to mall tomorrow." I informed her that we wouldn't go to the mall tomorrow, but maybe another week. She responded with, "Go to mall. On Saturday maybe."

5. For what I think was the first time ever, Ellie did not want to go to day-care yesterday. She said, "No day-care today, maybe Sunday. " I informed her that day-care was not open on Sunday, so she better go today instead. She ran away when it was time to put on her coat. I love having conversations with her, and having her understand what I say. She is growing up so quickly.

5 on Friday

1. We had our 32 week check up for Baby #2 last Friday. For the third appointment in a row, the Dr. (3 different doctors at that) have mentioned doing an ultrasound at 36-weeks to gauge the size of the baby. Given that Ellie was almost 2 weeks early and almost 9 lbs, I am not opposed to this--- although it makes me slightly nervous if we find out she is going to be a really big baby and I have to go full term. Good thing I trust my Drs. and don't think they want to set any records with me.

2. I went to the store Friday night, since our weekend was looking to be pretty busy. I got the last shopping cart on my way in (and I was at Fareway--- so there were not any sitting in the parking lot) and when I checked out the line was 5-6 people deep at every register (and there was a line of people waiting for carts). It was crazy!

3. After our first decent amount of snow, Nick has decided he wants a new snow-blower. He has mentioned this before and I fully support it. He was out for 1.5 hours on Saturday before dinner and went back out after dinner and the next day too! Heavy snow, a three car drive-way and a corner lot makes for a lot of shoveling.

4. We had a few people over for the Super Bowl. Ellie had a good time and did not want to go to bed even though she was really tired. She told Nick she wanted to go back to bed the next morning as she was getting ready for day-care... that was a first.

5. I remember being tired during the third trimester when I was pregnant with Ellie. But not nearly as tired as I am with Baby #2. I am exhausted all of the time! I live for weekend naps with Ellie. I guess it makes a difference having a 2-year old to run around after instead of the downtime I had with the Ellie.

5 on Friday

1. What an up and down week. Lots of positives and a big negative.

2. Saturday night we babysat our nephew/Godson, Liam (see previous post). He is just plain awesome. And it helps that Ellie loves him like a brother, sharing issues and all.

3. Saturday night we also got the call that Nick's dad had been taken to the hospital. At first they thought it was a stroke, but now they are thinking it was related to his diabetes and having WAY too high of blood glucose levels. Normal levels are between 60-100, his was 400+. The levels are slowly coming back down. It is just a wait and see game at this point.

4. The weather has been beautiful and we have taken advantage of it as much as possible. Ellie loves being outside.

5. Ellie and I made a trip to the mall on Wednesday. The little girl takes after her Mommy and loves to shop. It was a blast and at the end she was rewarded for being such a great shopper that we played in the play area before heading home. My favorite part of the evening: walking through the kid's clothing stores and Ellie saying, "How about this one, Mommy?"

60's in January

Someone up above must know that this pregnant lady is not willing to buy a new winter coat. And that there is a 2-year old that loves to play on the playground across the street, but didn't move in until November. Both have been win-wins for us this winter with amazingly warm weather (warm for Iowa anyway). On Monday night we ventured over to the playground after work, how could we not when it was 60 degrees in Janaury! Ellie was very excited, both to play on the playground and because the little boy from down the street was there as well. Side note: we love that our new neighborhood has kids Ellie's age to play with! And lots of them at that.

No complaints about the weather around here. And even when it does get cold and snowy--- we will have November, December and January to look back on.

Happy Godson!

This past weekend we were lucky enough to watch our nephew/Godson, Liam, while his Mommy and Daddy went to the Lady A concert. He was a perfect angel the entire night-- lots of smiles and coos. Not a single unhappy noise out of him all night (including bedtime when I put him in the Pack N Play still awake). Ellie did a great job having to share her Mommy and Daddy's attention, and did not try to step on Liam the entire night! She thought it was pretty fun when he would roll to her and touch her--- she was saying that he was trying to tickle her. She was decent at sharing her blankets/toys--- although a few times she would give him something, then change her mind about him playing with it. Here are a few pictures of the night:

Ellie woke up the next morning to see the door to the room Liam was sleeping in open. Her response was that he was already up and wanted to see him. She was disappointed when I told her that Aunt Megan and Uncle Mike had taken him home last night while she was sleeping. Good thing she will get her Liam fix on Sunday!

5 on Friday

1. Last weekend my college friends came over for dinner and to see the new house. As always, it was great to see them all (and their husbands and kids). For living in the same area, it doesn't happen often enough.

2. I have been exhausted this week. I am hoping to get a nap or two in this weekend while Ellie naps.

3. I love my iPad. I also love the library that lets me download books without having to leave the comfort of my home. I think I have read 8 books since I got the new toy.

4. Nick had class from 8am-6pm at an off-site location in town.

5. I pulled out the 0-3 month bin of clothes last weekend and got them all put away. Only a few more things to do and we will be ready for the little one to arrive (9 weeks and counting down).
