This is my first official blog ever, so bare with me...
BACKGROUND: this past winter we had sewer back-up issues at Nick's house. It was not a fun experience and we ended up redoing the basement (part of which we had just redone 3 months prior.) We found new carpet for the bedroom and laid our own laminate flooring for the second time. We also had the unpleasant experience of replacing dry wall (what a mess.) Anyway, it looked great, we (thought) we had the problem fixed, and we moved onto the upstairs for some more home improvements.
THEN CAME SPRING... After being married for barely 4 weeks Nick and I had our first big challenge of married life. We came home from work only to be greeted by the slush of water under our feet in the basement... it had been flooded by the heavy rain water the previous night! It came up through the sewer pipe again, but was rain water and not sewer water (luckily.) We quickly started tearing up the newly laid carpet, trying to save it if at all possible. We also had the job of tearing up the wood flooring we had just put in 6 months ago! How frustrating (again!) But it is all up, the basement is drying out and after consulting with our friends at Mr. Rooter (I am sure we are in the running for customer of the year), we will begin digging up the front yard and replacing the sewer pipe as soon as they are available.
In the meantime, the thought of rain makes me cringe and we are constantly checking the basement hoping that the water does not make an appearance again. On the bright side- there is a bonus in putting things in plastic bins, and who knows--- maybe we will try tiling the floor this time!
We feel and completely relate for those of you with the added 'water' roommate. It can only get better, right?
