1. We had a play-date with a little girl from day-care on Saturday. Ellie always loves the play-dates and it gives us Mommy's a chance to chat. We were minus one of our "regulars" but it was still a great time.
2. We were supposed to have dinner with our friends that had a new baby on Monday night. On the way home from work I realized I was not going to make it to dinner. Begin the sickness at our house...
3. I took Monday night/Tuesday morning, Nick was not feeling great Tuesday night. I think Neve may have had a version of it on Wednesday (hard to tell with the teething she has going on right now and I didn't think much of it until after Ellie got sick) and Ellie was down for the count Thursday. We are all back to normal and ready for a fun weekend today!
4. They are building streets near us. Which brings dust. Lots of it. Not a good combination for dark floors and the windows open. I cleaned the house on Wednesday night. Came home from work on Thursday (Nick was home with Ellie) and I could see the layer of dust/dirt! Cleaned again last night and closed up the windows. At least we had a little time with the windows open in our effort to get rid of germs.
5. Neve does not like sharing her Mommy or Daddy. I had Ellie and the neighbor girl on my lap before dance class while Neve was playing contently on the floor. Once she saw someone was on my lap she broke down! You would think we would have dealt with this issue with Ellie and not the second child. Ellie did not have a big problem sharing her Mommy (maybe a little problem sharing her Daddy).

5 on Friday
1. Way to go Iowa! First time I have been able to say that after a ISU/Iowa football game in a couple of years. We enjoyed the came with chili and friends at our neighbors house.
2. We hosted monthly dinner night on Sunday. Another reason we love our smoker-- we smoked up some pretty decent chicken and it was super easy.
3. The shelving units we ordered a couple of weeks ago finally came in! We put them up in the basement storage room and LOVE THEM! I quickly filled them up with totes of clothes that had been stashed in the spare bedroom. I love the organization!
4. Speaking of spare totes... I will be getting rid of some of ours soon, as my sister and her husband are going to have a baby girl come January! We are so happy for them, and happy to be passing some of the stuff off to them (asking for it not to come back to our house).
5. Nick kicked off his IMBA Trail Care visit weekend yesterday. They were out marking the new trail when the rain started to come down yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, he got a little wet.

5 on Friday
1. Last Friday was Special Person's Day at day-care. My parents came to hang out with the girls. We followed it up with lunch for Ellie, Grandma, Grandpa and me at Ellie's current favorite place, "Old McDonald."
2. Nick was on his bike trip thru Sunday, so it was a "girl weekend"! My best friend from high school, Brooke, came over Friday night for dinner and a movie. On Saturday the girls and I hit up the mall. It must have worn them out, because Neve slept from 12:30 until 5 and Ellie slept from 2 until 5. And I had to wake both girls up so they would still go to sleep that night!
3. Ellie and I had "Ellie and Mommy Night" on Saturday night after Neve went to bed. We painted Ellie's toes (with stickers and everything!), ate popcorn and watched a movie! I told her she could sleep in my bed with me if she wanted. Of course she did. About 15 minutes into bedtime she decided she wanted to go sleep in her own bed instead.
4. I got a call from day-care on Wednesday about moving Ellie into the next room up. This is the oldest classroom at day-care, and Ellie still has almost 2 years left before she can start school. While I am really excited that they think she is ready for the 4 & 5 year old classroom, I am nervous that she will become bored in a year. But, as another mom with a daughter in a similar situation said, it isn't fair to hold them back now for fear that they will be bored later. Nick and I still need to meet with the teachers to go over curriculum for now and next year, but I am pretty sure Ellie will be a "Hot Rod" by Halloween. Oh, and yes, she has only been in her current room since the beginning of June!
5. Thursday I got a call that Neve will be moving up to the next room! This one I knew was coming, and she is completely ready to move on to more advance learning. We will miss Miss Allison from her current room, though. I may have asked the Director of the day-care if we could just move Miss Allison with Neve! Both of the girls are growing up so fast!

5 on Friday
1. I love three day weekends, but they still go by so fast! Saturday morning we went to the zoo with my parents. We got in and out before it became too hot and for some reason the zoo was empty! It was perfect. We followed the zoo with lunch back at our place before the girls went down for their naps.
2. That afternoon my sister and nephew came over for dinner. It was a little hot for the pregnant lady and a 2-year old to tailgate at the ISU game, so we were glad to have them over. We smoked up some meat for dinner and had a great time.
3. Sunday we did a lot of "projects". We continued to work on refacing the keg freezer from the light colored wood to a darker wood to match our bar area a little better. It became quite the project, as we decide to give the whole thing a VERY thorough cleaning. The sad part is we ended up having to dump some of the beer in the process. Guess we better get back to brewing! Nick also cleaned out the garage and we both spent a few hours pulling weeds out of the grass.
4. Monday was beautiful and we were able to spend some time outside. Unfortunately, Nick's mom and her husband were in a car accident near Cumming. Nick went to pick them up and then took them back home to Ames. Luckily they are both OK, even if the car is not. The girls were very excited when Daddy got home. I think they were trying to get in as much Daddy-time as they could before he left for his annual fall bike trip.
5. We are having a girls weekend! Nick left on yesterday and will not be back until Sunday night. I am glad he goes on these trips, although we miss him like crazy when he is gone. It is a good reminder how much he contributes to the family, but also gives the girls and I some time to do 'girl things' like go to the mall (and the play area) and have girl night where we paint our toes. This will be the first year that I have not taken the girls to my parents house during the fall bike trip. We have something extra special planned for Saturday morning, so it doesn't fit into the schedule very well. I am sure I will be missing my parent's extra hands come Sunday afternoon.

"Mine" and "No"
I bet you can guess which child those two words are associated with! I am amazing my Neve's expanding vocabulary, she repeats words fairly well, and even put the following three words together the other day: "Mine apple Daddy." (As she was trying to keep Daddy's breakfast apple for herself.)
She is pretty clear when she says "yellow" and "purple." Asking her to say "Ellie" still gets us an "Ella," but she knows exactly who she is talking about. And she loves to say "happy." Which is the cutest thing ever!
I could pass on the "mine!' and the ever so frequent response of "no." Everything is "mine." Mommy, Daddy, a book, the car keys, a sippy cup... You name it, it belongs to the 17 month old in the house, at least according to her. Oh the fun of that along with a 3 1/2 year old big sister who is not going to stand for baby sister claiming big sister's baby doll as "mine." Let's just say we have a few more fights in our house than we did a couple of months ago... I am not expecting this to lighten up anytime soon.
I love this stage/age. The constant learning and being able to use words to express what they are feeling. Every day is something new, you can see them shape into who they will become in the future and their personalities are starting to come through even more. It also means the end of being a baby (although Neve will still be the baby). If only I could slow time down a little.
Next up: the oh-so-wonderful independent stage.

5 on Friday
1. We had a fun dinner out with friends followed by hanging out at our place last Friday night. It was a perfect evening.
2. Nick and I had date night with wine and cheese on Saturday night after the girls had gone to bed. My kind of date! We had a family night earlier in the evening with cheese, crackers and a little Toy Story.
3. With all of the heat, we have been staying inside a lot. I makes for wound-up, emotional little girls. I am hoping for some nicer weather in the near future so we can play outside again.
4. My friend had her baby girl on Monday. I had the pleasure of visiting them on Tuesday night. Aggie is a doll, and I loved being able to cuddle with a tiny baby again! Despite people telling her Mom and Dad that she is a big baby (8 lbs. 5 oz.) she is still smaller than Ellie and Neve were at birth.
5. I cannot believe it is almost September! September is busy for us, so I am going to enjoy the relaxing extended weekend before the craziness begins.

5 on Friday
1. Nick and Ellie had a camp-out in the backyard with the neighbor girl and her dad on Friday night. They had a little fire, made s'mores, and stayed up late. They had a great time. I was shocked that Ellie made it all the way to 5:30 AM before she woke up and wanted to go inside. Of course she was up for the day at that time. The girls wanted to camp-out again the next night... the dad's said not for a while.
2. We had a fun group bike ride/dinner/play-time with friends on Saturday afternoon. The weather was beautiful and it was great to be outside.
3. Ellie started dance class on Wednesday! She was really excited and looked so cute in her little pink outfit. She came out of class with a huge smile on her face and has been showing us her first position ever since.
4. I found Hawkeye clothes for the girls! Pro Image at Valley West Mall. Lots to choose from. A little more difficult to find matching clothes in size 18-24 mos. and 5/6. I was wearing a UNI shirt and the guy behind me at the checkout line commented that I was going to confuse Ellie with the Iowa outfit and my UNI shirt. I explained that I graduated from both places, but also grew up in Ames where two sets of her grandparents live. He said that was even more confusing.
5. Neve's day-care teacher commented that she thought she was going to be a tomboy because she is a little rougher than the other girls and holds her own (or is the pack leader) with the boys. I agree that she is a feisty, but she also loves wearing dresses/jewelry and playing house with her babies. It is interesting to see her personality develop.
