1. Ellie turned 5 on Thursday! We gave her the option of going to day-care and celebrating with her friends, or staying at home and having an 'Ellie Day.' Of course she picked an 'Ellie Day.' What a day she had: M&M pancakes for breakfast, painted her fingers and toes, Best Buy to pick out a movie for our in-home movie date, McDonald's for lunch, movie date, nap, dinner with the Grandparents at Jethros and Multicultural Night at day-care! She was smiles all day!
2. Our patio is finished! The furniture was delivered and now we just wait for spring so we can enjoy it.
3. We had a relaxing weekend at home--- just what we needed.
4. Nick and I put up our outdoor Christmas lights on Sunday--- I wanted to get it done before the cold weather came though. I think it was a great idea!
5. Ellie wants to turn the Christmas lights on so badly! She asks all the time. We told her we were waiting until after Thanksgiving!

5 on Friday
1. Our Halloween adventures continued with Trick-or-Treating in Ames at the Grandparent's houses on Friday night. This was the first year we have been able to make it to Ames, as it is usually on a weeknight and the girls have such early bedtimes. With the cold weather the trick-or-treaters were sparse, so I think the extra Elsa's were enjoyed even more.
2. Nick had his annual Spooky Woods Ride on Saturday night, so the girls and I had a movie night and watched part of Frozen in our bedroom. I love low-key nights like that.
3. Daylight savings time transition worked out great, as the girls had stayed up a little later each night starting with Thursday. Sunday morning came and it was pretty much normal wake-up time! Gotta love it when a plan like that comes together.
4. They started working on our new patio!
5. I made a recipe from Pinterest last night and everyone loved it! Well, almost everyone (Neve picked around the potatoes). We are usually hit and miss with Pinterest recipes, so I was excited (and the recipe was easy).

5 on Friday
1. I joined Ellie and her preschool/day-care class at the pumpkin patch on Friday. It is sad to think that is the last time I will go on the pumpkin patch field trip with her (it is an annual field trip). She is growing up so fast.
2. Speaking of growing up fast... this week they announced that Waukee will start school on August 13th next year. At first I read the new article on the start date and didn't think much of it (other than the pools would once again close early due to staffing issues). Then I realized that Ellie would be one of those kids starting on the 13th!!!!
3. Ellie had fun at one of her best friend's birthday party on Sunday. She loved dressing up as Elsa (3rd official time using her Halloween costume).
4. We had trick-or-treat in Waukee on Thursday night. The girls had a blast dressing up as Elsa (times 2) and running around the neighborhood with the other neighbor kids.
5. This morning the girls had their Halloween Parade at day-care. Good thing the Halloween Fairy comes tonight and exchanges the candy for a couple small gifts! And boy will our co-workers be excited come Monday.

5 on Friday
1. We ventured to Night Eyes at Blank Park Zoo last Friday with my sister and nephew. The kids had a great time, complete with riding the train and camel. I am not sure it is something I would do every year (we have a zoo membership so we visit there often and we do not need the extra candy around the house), but it was neat to see.
2. Ellie's Faith Formation (Sunday School) class had a Halloween party on Sunday. Two uses of her Halloween costume down! Not to mention she is Elsa so she wears it around the house frequently.
3. We had our always fun Monthly Dinner Night. This time we had a potato bar! Last month was a nacho bar. Both are things we do not normally have at our house, so it was different and yummy!
4. On Thursday we had family pictures! It was a little muddy and the ground was wet, but we still had a fun time. It is amazing the difference in Neve's attitude from last year to this year. I cannot wait to see how they turn out.

5 on Friday
1. It doesn't matter how long it has been, we always pick up right where we left off! That is how it feels when we get together with the Vodenik Family. It has been 9+ months since we last saw them, but the four little girls were chasing each other around after 5 minutes of arriving, and the adults were catching up like we had seen each other last week. We also had a blast bowling, eating pizza and playing games.
2. Family pictures must be coming up... the girls got their hair cut on Sunday and I had mine done on Monday. Ellie was very excited to go to the same person who cuts Mommy's hair, and both of them did a great job.
3. We had Observation Week at dance this week. Ellie loved having Mommy, Daddy and Neve watch her show off her dance moves. Normally the doors are closed during dance class so the little kids are not distracted by what is going on outside the room (or what their Mommy's or Daddy's are doing). But during Observation Week the parents get to sit in the studio and watch the girls during class.
4. Ellie and Nick joined Nick's brother and his three boys on a bike ride Sunday afternoon. Neve and I had colds and Neve was still taking a nap when it was time to leave for the ride. We decided rest was more important than a bike ride.
5. Neve came down with pink eye on Thursday. I think this is only the second time she has had it.

5 on Friday
1. Ellie, Neve and I joined some friends for the CFI Princess Party on Saturday. We went all out and purchased the VIP package--- hair, nails, pictures and early admission to the party! The girls all had a blast and loved being Elsa.
2. Ellie had her last soccer game of the season last night. She decided that soccer is not her thing--- and at this point she does not want to do it next year. That is OK with us... she is not the most aggressive child in the bunch.
3. I love the cooler weather because I can turn on the oven without feeling guilty! Brussel sprouts for our veggie with dinner it is! Three out of four of us love brussel sprouts. And the fourth one doesn't like much of anything right now.
4. On Tuesday I meet up with my sister-in-law and received a huge bag of clothes for the girls! Ellie was beyond excited and did a fashion show for two whole days! Each morning she asks what she can wear that her cousins gave her. Gotta love cousins and hand-me-downs.
5. Neve was a little fussy (or a lot fussy) on Wednesday night. Know what cures a fussy two year old... FaceTiming with Grandma and Grandpa! Thank goodness for FaceTime.

5 on Friday
1. We spent the weekend celebrating birthdays at our house. Saturday night we went bowling for our nephew's birthday, and Sunday we headed to Ames to celebrate my birthday with my parents.
2. Monday was my actual birthday. The girls celebrated with many rounds of "Happy Birthday." So cute to celebrate a birthday with little ones! Neve picked out my birthday gift from her and Ellie and both girls were super excited to show me the ice cream cake they got as soon as I walked in the door from work (they may or may not have wanted to eat it right then and there.) The card Neve picked out for me was totally her: complete with a punch-out birthday crown for me to wear.
3. Neve has a cold. Which makes for a semi-grumpy child. Have you ever seen those pictures where it shows a child crying with some silly little caption under it? Yes, that was my child... Caption: "Mommy looked at me." OR "The PJ's I wore last night had to be washed and I couldn't wear them even though I have tons of other ones I like." OR "I wanted rice even though I threw a fit when Mommy offered me some." OR "My parents do not love me because they will not hold me 24-7." It could be a long cold and flu season for our house.
4. Ellie's last soccer game was postponed for a week. Cross our fingers that next week is a little warmer than this week (or the last half of this week).
5. Neve's ear tubes are in the process of falling out. Let's hope she is a one and done on the tubes (unlike her sister).
