1. On Saturday we watched my niece and nephew for the day. Ellie and Neve were so excited to have them over. They were super easy and fit in perfectly. I may not have minded getting to hold a little baby in a sleep sack once again--- I love them in those things!
2. Part way through dinner on Saturday my nephew randomly says, "Nick," and starts chanting, "men, men, men..." Not something we are used in a house full of girls! It was pretty cute.
3. Sunday we had our monthly dinner night with friends, although it had been multiple months since we had gotten together with them! Ellie has already asked when we can do it again.
4. On Tuesday my co-worker of 11+ years left the company for a new opportunity. We went out for drinks to celebrate on Monday night. I will miss her and it will not be the same without her. It is hard to think I have been at the same place for so long--- or it just makes me feel old.
5. Nick got his hairs cut last week. Ellie had hers cut Wednesday. I had mine cut last night. We are good to go! (I gave Neve the option and she said she did not want hers cut.)

5 on Friday
1. The gym I go to had a guest day on Saturday, so Ellie went as my guest and participated in a kids gymnastic class. She loved it! So much that she cried when we had to leave. Then before bed she decided she was going to save her Princess Points so she could go back again.
2. I think Nick enjoyed Father's Day. He was able to sleep in, relax with the girls, bike with friends and go out to dinner with the family.
3. On Tuesday I was able to join my mom and sister for pedicures and dinner. It was a fun girls evening.
4. The life of a child: Ellie announced this morning that it was a really big day today--- family picnic at day-care, treasure box and swim play... She completely forgot riding home on the bike with Daddy and Neve!
5. I enjoy having my lunch hours free again. If only my to-do list would shrink!

5 on Friday
1. You may have noticed, updates have been few and far between lately. I was studying for the Level III CFA exam and took the test last Saturday. Since I put in over 450 hours of studying between January 1 and June 7, saying that my free time has been a little limited would be a slight understatement. The exam is done now, so it is time to start enjoying the beautiful spring/summer weather.
2. Ellie started swimming lessons last week. Day-care takes them each day, so it work really well with my working mom schedule. I think she likes them, although I will be ready for them to wrap up so we are not having to pack so much to take too and from day-care.
3. Ellie had her first t-ball game on Tuesday. Since it was a late game, I stayed home with Neve while Daddy went and watched Ellie. He said she did a great job, even hitting the ball up in the air! Sounds like it went much better than practice, where she came up to me half-way through and said she wanted to go home. I guess she likes the action of the actual game.
4. On Monday night I went out to dinner with the neighbor ladies to celebrate being done with studying. We went to a new place called Bar Louie over in Jordan Creek Town Center. The service was slow, but the food was decent and the atmosphere was neat.
5. Neve continues to be our little princess... and she tells us so. I called her "my sweetheart" or some cute name like that the other night. She quickly corrected me that she was " not a sweetheart, I am Mommy's Princess."

5 on Friday--- 'draft' file
I found this in my "drafts" section and decided that, although incomplete, I should post it. It is from the week of May 19th!
1. What a busy weekend! Saturday we had Ellie's first ever dance recital (Nick's too!) This year the studio's recital theme revolved around favorite dances from years past to celebrate 10 years at the current studio space. Ellie and Nick had a father/daughter dance to "Hello Dolly." It was AWESOME! I may be a little biased, but I think it got the best crowd reaction of all the dances in the entire recital. The dress rehearsal the week before was a little rough, with Ellie scooting on the floor instead of dancing. But when it came time for the actual recital it was AMAZING! Yes, lots of caps in this one --- because I was that proud. The dad's smiled, the little girls hit almost all of their steps (a great feat for 3 & 4 year olds on stage for the first time) and the daddy kick-line had the crowd going wild. I will post a video of the dress rehearsal (since we are not allowed to take video during the recital). It is cute, but not nearly as wonderful as the actual recital--- you will just have to take my word for it.
2. After the recital Ellie received flowers for doing such a great job. She was on cloud 9 the entire night (and into the next day). She held onto the flowers the entire ride home, and immediately wanted to put them in vases and display them in her room. She was a little crushed when we told her she could not have them on her nightstand over night (because she would be up looking/smelling/kissing them all night). If only I had known how much she loved getting flowers! I guess we will have to save that special treat for next year's recital.
3. Sunday night had a trail work day for the mountain bike trails. The girls and I spent most of the day outside since it was so beautiful.

5 on Friday
1. Friday night I went out to dinner with the neighbor girls. The other three made it a very late Mom's Night Out adventure. I went home after dinner because...
2. Saturday was our 6 year anniversary! But before we could celebrate I had to take a 6 hour practice exam at Drake. Once I completed that we celebrated by going out for Hibachi as a family. The girls thought is was interesting. Ellie loved eating Daddy's lobster and scallops (the kid has expensive taste).
3. Mother's Day was great. The rain did keep us from the zoo, but we had a nice time at home. The girls and I took a nap, while Nick was able to get a bike ride in. Once the sun came out we played outside.
4. Storms... I could do without them. Ellie always used to sleep through them as a baby/toddler. Not anymore. She was in our room countless time Sunday night/Monday morning. I was so exhausted that I even skipped workout class so I could get a little more sleep (something I have not done except for when I was sick). I was glad I did though, because there was no way I would have had the mental ability to study on less than 4 hours of sleep.
5. Dress rehearsal! Ellie had her dress rehearsal for her dance recital on Wednesday. Although she was the kid that sat on the stage trying to pick up glitter from the floor, it was super cute and I cannot wait to watch it on Saturday (without trying to multi-task video taping and taking pictures).

5 on Friday
1. I had my 5-week testing at Farrell's on Saturday. I improved my mile time by almost a minute and did 3x the number of sit-ups as in my initial testing. My neighbor and I laughed about how sad our initial sit-up testing was and what a difference it was this time around.
2. On Saturday we ventured to the mall to try and find shoes for Genevieve and Nick. We found some for Neve... none for Nick. Which reminds me I need to order some summer sandals. Unlike Nick, I am more than happy to do my shoe shopping online (Zappos VIP and free 1-day shipping with free returns--- who can say no to that!)
3. We planted our flowers in front of the house on Sunday. Nick and Neve went to the hobby shop and picked up a rocket. The neighborhood kids and dads enjoyed shooting the rockets off. The moms and little kids hung out a few houses down (out of the rocket's range).
4. After the rain we had last week, we are enjoying being able to play outside this week. I hope the rain can stay away on Mother's Day... I wanted to make it to the zoo!
5. Dandelions... Ellie LOVES them. Mommy and Daddy do not. Ellie is fully aware that we hired someone to spray the yard for weeds this year. Her and I were running errands the other day and she asked if they were going to spray for the dandelions next year as well. I said most likely. She said she would talk to Daddy about it (because Daddy is going to give her a different reason).

5 on Friday
1. On Saturday we went to Earl May to pick up some seeds and plants for the garden (since we actually had a couple hours without something planned). What was supposed to be a quick trip and garden/herb related turned into a slightly longer trip that included garden/herb items, as well as some pots for the front of the house and flowers/plants to put in them. While I am glad we finally have something out front instead of looking at the brick under the stoop, it was a little more than I was planning to do right now. Oh well, it will be done and look great for the spring/summer.
2. Saturday afternoon Ellie and I planted the herbs while Neve napped and Nick biked. Our neighbor, Elizabeth, came over and helped. The two girls had a blast. So much so that they wanted to plant more! After dinner we went out to plant the garden. While Nick mowed the lawn, Ellie, Neve, Elizabeth and me planted the entire garden. We may have some carrots mixed in with the sugar snap peas, but the girls had an absolute blast and were pretty good little helpers! They really wanted to water the plants, but with the rain this week, we held off (good thing with the rain we have received). Ellie has already asked when she can go down to the garden and eat the veggies we planted...
3. On Sunday we ventured to Ames to celebrate Easter and Grandma Thorson's birthday. The girls were super excited for both occasions. I love how much Ellie LOVES doing Easter egg hunts. It is more about the hunt than what is in them.
4. Ellie is in dance this year and the Daddy's get to dance in the recital with them. Of course I made the mistake of scheduling dance class on Wednesday (Daddy's biking day) and the Daddy's are supposed to practice each week with the little girls. I have been filling in the past few weeks and last week we video taped the dance so Ellie and Daddy could practice at home. Monday night we pulled out the tape and started practicing. 1) Ellie loved it and was a little too excited (aka not focused on her dance moves). 2) Neve REALLY wanted to join in, so I had to do the moves with her at the same time as Daddy and Ellie. Super cute.
5. Ellie was really excited to make May Baskets. This was the first year we made them, although we have received them in the past. I love being able to continue a tradition that I always loved as a child. Neve was most excited about eating popcorn and could care less about the baskets themselves.
